To facilitate a Live-In Nanny it is recommended that a family have a minimum of a separate bedroom and bath available for the Nanny. There are positives and negatives for hiring a Live-In Nanny. Positive: The Nanny is always available. There is no waiting each morning for the Nanny to arrive. The Nanny becomes a part of your family more easily. The Nanny is available for those late nights, evenings out or weekends away. Negative: There is less privacy for your family. A family must supply sufficient room and board, as well as bath and laundry facilities and many times an automobile, phone, or health insurance. Often families of Live-In Nannies expect their Nanny to work longer hours, which results in professional "burnout". Be clear about the "rules of your home". What hours guests can visit, in what manner can your Nanny entertain and any other family values that you expect the Nanny to adhere to. 3. Set a schedule of quarterly or semi-annual meeting times with your Nanny on the onset of their employment so that you and your Nanny can discuss any issues or concerns you may have, as well as share appreciation for the work they have done. 4. Remember the roles of employer and employee. In Live-In situations, these lines become more undefined and can create issues between the Nanny and the family. 5. Strive to develop a "team" relationship with your Nanny. As a team, each of you bring important ideas to he table.
