NANNY CARE

the "other" child care option

A Nanny is a childcare professional whose work is to care for a child in the home of the child.   Nannies may have childcare experience with their own children or a background in childcare as a Nanny or Childcare worker.

A Nanny may have additional child development education as a graduate from a nanny training school or other educational program with emphasis in child development.

A Nanny may live-in or live out and work either full time or part time.  Additionally, many Nannies will work temporary assignments as available.

The primary focus of a Nanny is the care and well being of your child.  Therefore, Nannies will generally perform only domestic responsibilities associated with the day-to-day care of your child.

A Nanny may consider some limited additional responsibilities if offered additional monetary reimbursement.  A Nanny may be willing to provide light housekeeping (dusting, vacuuming, dishes) family laundry, running errands, etc.  Discuss your job description and pay with the agency as well as in depth with any Nanny interviewed.

What Screening Does Our Agency Perform?

Nannies registered with our agency are thoroughly screened through:

§         In-depth Personal Interview

§         Academic Verification

§         Childcare & Character References

§         Negative Tuberculin Test

§         Physician Statement of Health

§         Non-Criminal Documentation

§         Employment History Verification

§         Social Security Number Verification

§         DMV Report

§         CPR /1st Aid Training

Christian Nannies believes that these clearances are the basics to which every parent should have access; therefore, we provide these services for every family registered with us.

Due to the cost of processing Nanny applications, the criminal record report requests are not processed until the Nanny has been offered a position.  Due to confidentiality laws, we are unable to provide parents with the actual copies; however, we do offer a statement to each parent that all screening has been completed.  This will be emailed to the parent within seven days of hire.

What Is The Average Wage of A Nanny?

Your Nanny’s salary should be commensurate with the Nanny’s educational and professional experience.  Keep in mind that to maintain a Nanny long term, they must be able to maintain their lifestyles to a minimum degree.  With this in mind, we will NOT offer nannies any position with a salary that is less than minimum wage.

Salary requirements for live-in and live out Nannies are generally similar.  Most live-in Nannies actually work more hours per week than live out Nannies.  This is not usually by design, but rather how daily living schedules evolve when the Nanny is ALWAYS available.

Generally Nannies earn an hourly rate ranging from $10.00 to $25.00 per hour - depending on the salary range in your area, your specific job description, the experience of the Nanny and the number of children in care.

When determining the wage of your Nanny, remember to consider your job description, hours of employment and any other benefits you may offer. The better the package, the higher the quality of potential candidates you will attract.

What Benefits Are Generally Offered to Nannies

Benefit packages for Nannies are not mandated by the agency or by law.

 HOWEVER ...

In any employment situation, the retention rate is higher when a good benefit package is offered.  Developing a benefit package is not difficult, but the rewards for doing so are many.  Consider the hours and days you would be required to pay for childcare if you utilized any other childcare option (remember, when your child is sick you still have care). Include in your benefit package paid holidays, paid vacations, (yours and theirs),  paid sick days, as well as pay for additional hours the Nanny may work beyond the regularly scheduled hours.

It is not unrealistic for Nannies to expect these benefits in their employment.  Make benefits part of the employment relationship with your Nanny from the beginning.

Additional benefits such as regular performance evaluations, annual pay increases, health insurance and life insurance are also  “perks” which enhance the retention of your Nanny, and paid training can increase the quality of care for your child.  Although not everyone can offer it all -

Offering what you can will truly make a difference…

How Do I Put Together A job Description?

Developing an employment contract with your Nanny is not only easy, but is also a very important document between you and your Nanny.  It clarifies your expectations of your Nanny as well as what your Nanny can expect from you, the employer.  Communication should be the most important part of the job description.

First, discuss with your family what child-related responsibilities should be handled on a daily basis.  Then review which responsibilities your family will feel most comfortable asking another person to perform.  Keep in mind that your Nanny’s primary responsibility should be your child.  Therefore, envision a typical day with your child rather than your household when developing your job description.  Plan to discuss revisions annually or as needed based on the needs and/or development of your child.

As you interview potential Nanny candidates, discuss with them the responsibilities that your position requires.  Obtain feedback from the Nanny, defining terminology as necessary.  Good, honest communication is the key to good relationships.

How Do I Become An Employer?

When you hire a Nanny, you are obligated by state and federal laws to file a number of forms and taxes.  Many parents attempt to avoid this process by paying their Nanny in cash - or in other words, "off the books."

Although this may be tempting, IT IS ILLEGAL and can make you liable for unpaid taxes and fines in the future.  Our services attempts to offer you the most up-to-date information available on employment issues through our Parent Welcome Packet.  however, WE ARE NOT TAX CONSULTANTS.  Therefore, our information should NEVER replace your use of a tax professional.

Our Parent Welcome Packet will offer you information concerning:

 -  Obtain Federal & State Employer ID Numbers

 -  Social Security & Medicare Withholding Tax Information

 -  Federal & State Unemployment Tax Information (when available)

What If Our Nanny Doesn't Fit Our Family?

Even with the best information and intentions, on rare occasions, the family's choice for a Nanny does not work out - either for the family or for the Nanny.  In those rare situations Cornerstone Christian Nannies will gladly work with you to find a replacement Nanny.  We understand that the bottom line is the care of your children; therefore, we will gladly do all we can to assist you.  This may be in the form of securing a temporary Nanny who will fill in as you look for a suitable replacement or simply providing another permanent Nanny.

If your Nanny leaves within the first eight weeks of employment, the replacement Nanny will be offered to you with NO additional placement fee due the agency.  This is your GUARANTEE PERIOD.

However, if your Nanny leaves your employment for ANY reason after the first eight weeks guarantee period and prior to the Nanny's one-year anniversary of employment, the replacement fee will be pro-rated.  The pro-ration for this replacement fee is 10% of the original placement fee multiplied by the number of months your Nanny was in your employ.  For example, if you have your Nanny employed for 6 months, the pro-ration would be as follows:  8 wk (2months) guarantee period, subtracted from 6 months will leave 4 months - therefore 10% of the original placement fee would be multiplied by four.
